Project Runway is an American reality television series that focuses on fashion design. The contestants compete with each other to create the best clothes and are restricted by time, materials and theme. Their designs are judged by a panel, and one or more designers are typically eliminated from the show each week. During each season, contestants are progressively eliminated until only a few contestants remain. These finalists prepare complete fashion collections for New York Fashion Week.
`Project Runway' returns for a ninth season with the most designers in show history. In the season's first episode, 20 designers go before host Heidi Klum, mentor Tim Gunn and judges Michael Kors and Nina Garcia to make a case as to why they deserve one of the 16 spots in this season's competition. Once chosen, the 16 finalists face their first challenge, one of the toughest ever on the show.
Returning as judges are supermodel Karlie Kloss, editor-in-chief of Elle, Nina Garcia, fashion designer Brandon Maxwell, and former editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue Elaine Welteroth. Season 4 winner Christian Siriano returns to mentor the designers and use the "Siriano save" for the first time to bring an eliminated designer back into the competition if he disagrees with the judge’s verdict.
